Choose a defined space
A wardrobe, pantry or one room gives a session a clear boundary. Choose the area that creates the most daily friction rather than trying to reorganise the whole house at once.
Keep decisions with you
Set out simple categories such as keep here, move elsewhere and review for donation. A helper can support the process, but should not decide what matters to you or discard belongings without your agreement.
- Set aside private paperwork and valuables.
- Make a separate place for undecided items.
- Agree who will arrange donations or disposal.
- Pause before buying storage products.
Organise around use
Keep frequently used items accessible and arrange occasional items where they do not interrupt daily routines. The useful system is the one you can maintain, even if it is less visually elaborate than a styled photograph.
Agree the finish line
Decide what counts as a successful session: usable shelves, a sorted hanging rail or an organised cupboard. Disposal, transport and extra storage purchases may need separate arrangements after the organising work.
